 ur understanding of active galactic nuclei (AGN) has been significantly ad
 vanced through high-resolution observations enabled by very-long-baseline 
 interferometry (VLBI). Under the mentorship of Thomas\, our work has focus
 ed on high-frequency VLBI imaging of γ-ray active AGN jets\, probing thei
 r structure\, variability\, and dynamics at the highest angular resolution
 s. By utilising global VLBI networks\, including the Global Millimetre VLB
 I Array and the Event Horizon Telescope\, we have traced the evolution of 
 jet features on sub-parsec scales\, uncovering key insights into jet accel
 eration\, collimation\, and interaction with the surrounding medium. In my
  presentation I will showcase our collaborative research with Thomas and e

 not only through research but also through the guidance of dedicated mento
 rs. One such mentor is Thomas Krichbaum\, whose guidance has shaped many s
 cientific careers. As he approaches retirement\, this talk honors his inva
 luable mentorship and foundational contributions to very-long-baseline int
 erferometry (VLBI) and jet physics.\nIn my doctoral research with Thomas\,
  I used cutting-edge VLBI observations to probe the innermost jets of thre
 e legendary blazars\, the most extreme type of active galactic nuclei\, TX
 S 2013+370\, OJ 287\, and 3C 454.3. Using ground arrays like GMVA and EHT\
 , along with record-breaking space VLBI observations from RadioAstron\, I 
 explored key open questions about jet collimation\, spectral evolution\, a
 nd the role and morphology of magnetic fields at sub-parsec scales\, as we
 ll as tracing links between jet kinematics and high-energy emission.\nBeyo
 nd the science\, this journey has been shaped by my supervisor’s mentors
 hip and curiosity\, which pushed me beyond known boundaries. His dedicatio
 n to fostering young researchers and advancing astrophysics leaves a lasti

  millimetre VLBI observations of the supermassive black hole of the Galact
 ic Centre\, Sagittarius A*\, have provided an unprecedented insight into t
 he extreme physics of strong gravity. In this talk\, I will discuss the ea
 rly pioneering efforts that paved the way for resolving the shadow of Sgr 
 A*\, highlighting key developments in millimeter-wave very long baseline i
 nterferometry (VLBI) and theoretical modelling. A crucial aspect of this w
 ork was the use of ray-tracing simulations and plasma emission calculation
 s\, carried out at the turn of the century\, to predict the appearance of 
 the black hole shadow and its surrounding emission in curved spacetime. Th
 ese simulations paved the way for interpreting VLBI observations and antic
 ipating the challenges posed by the scattering\, variability and complex a
 strophysical processes that shape the observed emission. These breakthroug
 hs culminated in the Event Horizon Telescope's first image of Sgr A*\, con

 raction of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) exhibit structured relativistic j
 ets along with rapidly variable and luminous electromagnetic emissions ran
 ging from radio waves to gamma rays. Although many theoretical models prop
 ose that mass accretion onto central supermassive black holes (SMBHs) is t
 he ultimate energy source powering AGNs\, the detailed physical processes 
 governing the structure and physics of the inner regions near SMBHs - incl
 uding the emergence of relativistic jets and the production of very high e
 nergy photons and particles - remain elusive. In this talk I will present 
 our ongoing research\, which mainly uses ultra-high resolution millimetre-
 wavelength and space-based radio astronomical observations in combination 
 with multi-wavelength and multi-messenger studies. I will highlight select
 ed results from different AGNs\, including M87\, other radio galaxies\, ne
 utrino blazars\, and peculiar radio galaxies. In addition\, I will present
  recent advances in high-resolution radio astronomy in Korea\, covering de
 velopments within the extended Korean VLBI Network project as well as our 
 contributions to international projects such as the ngEHT\, SKA\, and futu
 re space mm-VLBI missions. I will conclude the talk with a personal dedica

 in the 1980s as an\nambitious project to build a millimeter interferometer

 tronomy\, ELTE\, Eotvos University)\nLarge fraction of flat spectrum radio
  quasars show at cm wavelengths fast variability\, called Intraday Variabi
 lity (IDV). IDV is mainly explained as the result of propagation effect ca
 used by interstellar scattering of radio waves in the turbulent\, ionised 
 interstellar matter of the Milky Way. The annual modulation of the variabi
 lity timescale\, caused by the Earth motion around the Sun\, observed in a
  handful of IDV sources\, is one of the unequivocal evidence of its extern
 al origin. \nJ1128+5925 was discovered to be showing pronounced variabilit
 y in an IDV campaign with the Effelsberg telescope. Continued monitoring r
 evealed an annual modulation in its light curve. Our high resolution VLBA 
 observations showed a core-jet structure which can explain the anisotropy 
 seen in the the annual modulation pattern. Additionally\, it revealed a po
 larization angle and rotation measure change whose origin is under investi
