Scientific Writing

by Prof. Peter Schneider (Argelander Institut für Astronomie, University of Bonn)

Thursday, 23 November 2023 from to (Europe/Berlin)
at MPIfR ( Seminar room 2.05 (Library) )
Description
Publications, such as journal papers and theses, are the prime channel
of communicating the results of your research. Therefore, the quality
of a publication should match that of the research itself. Clear
communication is essential for the work to be understood and
appreciated (and cited) by colleagues. In this lecture, some basic
aspects of scientific writing will be outlined, including the
preparation for the write-up, the structure of a paper, aspects of
clarity (recall: results in natural sciences should be reproducible),
some comments on figures, as well as ethical aspects. In addition, we
will together take a look at the most commonly made mistakes.
