Travel
The closest airport to Jodrell Bank Observatory is Manchester International Airport (MAN; https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk). This airport connects with all major European airport hubs as well as many other European cities, and caters for direct flights from/to the Far East, the Americas and Africa.
Transport
The best way to travel to the meeting hotel is by train. At Manchester airport follow signs for "The Station". Tickets can be purchased at Manchester Airport Rail Station (station code MIA) for destination "Holmes Chapel" (station code HCH) and cost approximately £18.00 (open return) depending on the exact service you wish to board.
Direct trains generally leave Manchester Airport at 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 minutes past each hour (e.g. 14:01, 15:01, 16:02, 17:05) and take about 27 minutes to reach Holmes Chapel. These trains are generally travelling between Liverpool and Crewe so you should be boarding a train whose final destination is "Crewe". Other rail routes to Holmes Chapel station are available, but these would involve a change of trains and would generally take longer than simply waiting for the next direct train.
We will organise a shuttle-bus service to take you from Holmes Chapel station to the meeting hotel. It will meet all trains arriving from Manchester Airport on Tuesday 25th June 2019, from the 14:01 departure until the 19:03 departure. A similar service will take you from the meeting hotel to Holmes Chapel station on the morning of Thursday 27th June 2019. In order for us to arrange this please ensure you include your airline arrival and departure dates/times in the meeting registration.
A bus will be organised to take you from the meeting hotel to Jodrell Bank Observatory on the morning of Wednesday 26th June 2019. The departure time will be advised nearer the date. The bus will return to the hotel after the conclusion of the meeting prior to the meeting dinner at Cranage Hall.
