DESCRIPTION:\n\nScientific rationale:\n\nRecent developments have pushed t
he limits of resolution in astrophysics to new frontiers. Very-long-baseli
ne interferometry (VLBI) at millimetre wavelengths or using antennas in sp
ace yields resolutions down to tens of microarcseconds (that is\, fraction
s of nanoradians). These observations probe compact objects such as the in
nermost regions of active galactic nuclei. Space VLBI is living a new era
at present with the results from the RadioAstron mission\, enhancing radio
interferometry in terms of resolution at least one order of magnitude wit
h respect to ground-based VLBI. Millimetre VLBI also brings radio interfer
ometry to a new range of resolution and with much enhanced sensitivity due
to improvements in data bit rate. With more antennas capable of VLBI at 3
-mm wavelength\, and successful observations being carried out at 1-mm\, a
new window is open to universe at unprecedented resolution. This workshop
will review recent results on high resolution radio astronomy\, including
opportunities provided by new antennas becoming available. It will also d
iscuss on the applications of high-resolution imaging techniques and the s
ynergies in the study of compact objects by space and mm-VLBI together. \
n\nContributions to the workshop will be published online in this webpage\
; no regular proceedings are planned.  Abstracts will be sent to the Astr
ophysical Data System.\n\nScientific Organising Committee:\n\nE. Ros (MPIf
 R\; Chair)\, M. Giroletti (IRA-INAF)\, T. Hovatta (Aalto Univ.)\, Y.Y. Kov

 rganising Committee:\n\nE. Ros (Chair)\, G. Bruni\, B. Naunheim\, J.A. Zen

nion’s Seventh Framework Programme for research\, technological developm
ent and demonstration under grant agreement no 283393.\n\n \n\n

DESCRIPTION:The Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy is happy to annou
nce the workshop: "The Big Impact of a Big Dish: Science with the Effelsbe
rg 100-m telescope"\, which was held on 20-21 Feb\, 2018 at the MPIfR in B
onn.\n\nEven more than 40 years after its inauguration\, the 100-m telesco
pe is still one of the two largest fully-steerable radio telescopes in the
world\, and — due to continuous efforts by the institute and the Max Pl
anck Society — in an excellent shape. It is heavily used for astronomic
al observations and accessible by users from all over the world due to its
"Open Skies" policy.\n\nThis meeting was intended to bring together vario
us user groups of the 100-m telescope with the support staff of the observ
atory and the technical developers. We are looking forward to the opportun
ity to discuss recent observational results and technical developments wit
h the users of the 100-m telescope. Furthermore\, this meeting will give u
s the possibility to learn about new ideas for observing projects and will
allow us to plan technical and software developments for the next years.\

DESCRIPTION: \n\n \n\nDespite the all-dominating Corona Virus crisis we
are pleased to announce the RadioNet Technical Dissemination Workshop on n
ew trends in Radio Astronomy instrumentation. These two days of virtual co
ming together\, presenting new ideas by zoom\, and discussing future trend
 s via web-chat will take place on September\, 21st and 22nd 2020 organized
by the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn (Germany). This w
orkshop will take place in any case\, organized explicitly as a virtual ev
ent.\n\nThis meeting is the last in a series of technical workshops combin
ing several aspects of engineering and operational issues at radio observa
tories all over Europe and beyond. It provides the unique opportunity to c
ross border the different communities to see what ‘the others’ are doi
ng and planning and enhance communication between engineers\, scientists\,
and operators.\n\nThe Workshop is fully sponsored (no participation fees)
and organized by the EU Consortium RadioNet within the Horizon2020 Progra
m of the European Commission and continues a very successful series of eng
ineering workshops and telescope operation - oriented meetings organized w
ithin the Sixth and Seventh Framework Programme. Engineers and scientists
working at various observatories to get and keep their radio telescopes ru
nning are welcome to present their interesting projects in an oral present
ation tailored to a virtual presentation. Due to internal visitor restrict
ions and the purely virtual format of the workshop we won’t be able to s
how poster presentations.\n\nFor information on past meetings in this seri
 es see\nhttp://www.radionet-eu.org/fp7wiki/doku.php?id=na:engineering:ew\n
\nSOME TOPICS OF THE WORKSHOP:\n\n• Reuse of existing infrastructure for
and beyond radio astronomy\n\n• Reuse of existing instrumentation techn
ology\n\n• Future trends in instrumentation\n\n• Stunning results from
RadioNet JRAs\n\n• New approaches towards unthought ideas\n\nThe worksh
op will start on Monday\, September 21 at noon and end on Tuesday\, Septem
ber 22 at ~ 6 pm. Unfortunately\, a common social dinner as we had it for
many years will not be possible due to distancing rules in Germany. Instea
d\, we will have a virtual social coming together with individual small ta
lk and some entertainment.\n\nThe meeting will be informal and should offe
r lots of time for discussions. Each presentation is limited to a maximum
of about 30 minutes with some time for discussion included. The abstracts
will be made available as a workshop worksheet per e-mail in .pdf format.\
n\nREGISTRATION\n\nRegistration can be made online on the workshop’s ind
ico webpage (see menu on the left).\n\nbefore September 15th\, 2020\n\nACC
